SUMMARY:Genomics of pandemics fast & slow: COVID 19 and antimicrobial resistance
DESCRIPTION:In this seminar\, Andrew McArthur\, professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences\, and David Braley Chair in Computational Biology at McMaster University will discuss the current infectious diseases landscape\, emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases and the need for effective surveillance. Using the COVID 19 pandemic as an example his talk will highlight need for genomic surveillance of infectious threats\, factors influencing the rapid adoption of genomic surveillance\, such as advances in internet and drastically dropping DNA sequencing costs\, and explore the rapid rise of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as an emerging threat in infectious diseases. \nThe seminar is organized by Medical Genomics Program\, offered by the Department of Molecular Genetics. \nDate: November 11th\, 3-4 PM ET \nPlace: Galbraith Building\, Room 220 \nVisit the event page for more details!
