SUMMARY:Platelets' role during COVID-19: More to it than blood clots?
DESCRIPTION:Calling all trainees\, staff and faculty interested in infectious disease research! The Emerging & Pandemic Infections Consortium with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is proud to host a special seminar on the evolving role of platelets in infectious diseases. The seminar is hosted by EPIC faculty member\, Julien Muffat\, and features a talk by Louis Flamand at Université Laval. \nFlamand’s short bio: \nLouis Flamand is a professor and vice chair of microbiology\, infectious diseases and immunology at Université Laval and a senior researcher in the division of infectious and immune diseases at the CHU de Quebec-Université Laval. He is the Pillar 3 (Virology) lead for Coronavirus Variants Rapid Response Network and the interim chair for the Canadian Consortium for Academic Biosafety Level 3 Laboratories. Part of his research focuses on pre-clinical drug development and since 2008\, he has been the president of the biohazards risk committee at Université Laval. Dr Flamand is the author of more than 80 peer-reviewed publications and is the lead editor of the book “Human Herpesviruses HHV-6A\, HHV-6B & HHV-7: Diagnosis and Clinical Management” 3rd edition.

DESCRIPTION:Hosted by EPIC Trainee Advisory Committee and held on the first Thursday of every month\, the Trainee Pizza Talks are a safe and supportive trainee-only space for trainees to present and discuss their research with other students\, postdocs\, and RAs from various research fields.
