SUMMARY:Repeated Influenza Vaccination Effects: Insights from a randomized placebo-controlled trial
DESCRIPTION:Flu vaccines are routinely administered to build immunity against seasonal variants. What are the effects of repeated vaccinations? \nTo find out\, join us for a seminar co-hosted by the Emerging and Pandemic Infections Consortium and the Centre for Vaccine Preventable Diseases\, where Ben Cowling will present the findings from a randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial about the effects of repeated influenza vaccines. \n** Ben Cowling’s short bio ** \nBen Cowling is professor and chair of epidemiology and division head of epidemiology and statistics at the University of Hong Kong’s LKS Faculty of Medicine. \nHis research focuses on infectious disease epidemiology and he has designed and implemented large field studies of influenza transmission in the community and the effectiveness and impact of control measures. His latest research is focused on the modes of respiratory virus transmission\, influenza vaccination effectiveness\, and immunity to infections at the individual and population level. \nHe is a fellow of the Royal Statistical Society and the UK Faculty of Public Health and his many awards and recognitions include the prestigious Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire\, which was awarded to him in 2021 to commemorate Queen Elizabeth’s birthday honors. \nDate and time: May 22\, 2:00 – 3:00 PM EDT \nLocation: MSB 2170 \nPlease note\, there is a networking opportunity to connect with the speaker over coffee and snacks after the seminar between 3:00 to 4:00 PM. \nRegister here via the Eventbrite page!
