SUMMARY:Emerging pathogen containment: An introduction to research approaches workshop
DESCRIPTION:We will be hosting a trainee workshop titled: “Emerging Pathogen Containment: An introduction to research approaches”. \nIn this workshop\, trainees will get an inside look at how research involving high containment pathogens is conducted in academic environments. The sessions will include an overview of the Canadian regulatory structure for work with emerging pathogens\, case studies of program redesign\, interactive risk assessment activities and a walk-through tour of the Toronto High Containment Facility. \nTrainees at EPIC partnered institutions or trainee members of Canopy (Canadian One Health Training Program on Emerging Zoonoses) are eligible to register for the workshop\, but spaces are limited and will be assigned based on first responses. \nNote: Lunch and coffee will be provided! Certificates of completion will be available upon request. \nWhen: February 5\, 2026\nTime: 9:00 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.\nWhere: RM2278\, Medical Sciences Building\, University of Toronto (St. George Campus)\nCost: Free! \nRegister for the workshop using this form. SUMMARY:Health systems policy in action: Development of a Pan-Canadian sepsis action plan
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a session with Kali Barrett and Fatima Sheikh on the development of a Pan-Canadian Sepsis Action Plan. \nSepsis is a global public health threat with significant morbidity\, mortality\, and health system resource utilization\, yet no Canadian strategy currently exists. In 2017\, the World Health Assembly passed Resolution 70.7\, formally recognizing sepsis as a global health priority and calling on member states to develop coordinated national strategies to reduce its burden. In this session\, Barrett and Sheikh will examine the current sepsis policy landscape in Canada and share insights into ongoing efforts to advance a coordinated\, pan-Canadian approach to sepsis prevention\, recognition\, and management. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nUnderstand the clinical and health system burden of sepsis and how system-level policies can reduce its impact\nDescribe the current sepsis policy landscape in Canada\nLearn about national efforts underway to develop a Pan-Canadian Sepsis Action Plan\n\nThis session will examine the current sepsis policy landscape in Canada and highlight ongoing efforts to advance a coordinated\, pan-Canadian strategy for sepsis prevention\, recognition\, and management. \nDate: 5 February 2026 \nTime: 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. \nLocation: Room 240\, Eaton North\, 10th Floor\, 200 Elizabeth St. \nRegister here for virtual attendance. \n
