SUMMARY:Overview of Nipah Strategy at the CEPI
DESCRIPTION:Join Public Health Ontario Microbiology Rounds on a discussion on: Overview of Nipah Strategy at the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) \nNipah virus (NiV) is a high fatality zoonotic pathogen with pandemic potential and no licensed vaccines. This PHO Microbiology Rounds will present NiV research conducted by the Laboratory Research and Innovation department at the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI). The presentation will summarize outcomes from a global expert consultation convened to define research and development priorities for NiV outbreak preparedness. Drawing on outbreak experiences in Malaysia\, Bangladesh and India\, it will highlight critical gaps in epidemiology\, diagnostics\, animal models\, and correlates of protection.  \nResearch generated by CEPI’s Centralized Laboratory Network focusing on immunogenicity assays developed for NiV\, their potential applications for vaccine developers and research laboratories\, and the next steps for expanding their implementation across the network will be discussed. An overview of CEPI’s Preclinical Model Network specific to the CEPI NiV vaccine portfolio will be presented\, highlighting their efforts to establish high quality\, regulatory-approved preclinical models that can be used to translationally evaluate Nipah virus vaccines in support of clinical development. \nPresenters: \n\nAli Azizi\, PhD\, Technical Lead\, CEPI\, and Adjunct Professor\, Northeastern University\nTrevor Brasel\, PhD\, Head of Preclinical Models\, CEPI\nSelorm Avumegah\, PhD\, Preclinical Expert and Programme Lead for Biospecimen Sourcing Initiative\, CEPI\n\n  \nDate: 7 May 2026 \nTime: 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. \nLocation: Online \nPlease register on the event website.
