Health systems policy in action: Development of a Pan-Canadian sepsis action plan

Join us for a session with Kali Barrett and Fatima Sheikh on the development of a Pan-Canadian Sepsis Action Plan.

Sepsis is a global public health threat with significant morbidity, mortality, and health system resource utilization, yet no Canadian strategy currently exists. In 2017, the World Health Assembly passed Resolution 70.7, formally recognizing sepsis as a global health priority and calling on member states to develop coordinated national strategies to reduce its burden. In this session, Barrett and Sheikh will examine the current sepsis policy landscape in Canada and share insights into ongoing efforts to advance a coordinated, pan-Canadian approach to sepsis prevention, recognition, and management.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the clinical and health system burden of sepsis and how system-level policies can reduce its impact
  2. Describe the current sepsis policy landscape in Canada
  3. Learn about national efforts underway to develop a Pan-Canadian Sepsis Action Plan

This session will examine the current sepsis policy landscape in Canada and highlight ongoing efforts to advance a coordinated, pan-Canadian strategy for sepsis prevention, recognition, and management.
