2025 Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Research Days

The annual University of Toronto Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Research Days returns on May 26th and 27th, 2025.

Abstract submissions open on Wednesday, April 9. Please complete the abstract submission form to submit an abstract.

May 26th will highlight some of the excellent research done by our trainee community through the featured trainee talks and flash talks. This year’s talks include presentations by the latest cohort of our Future Leaders awardees: Patrick Budylowski, Ashley Campbelland James Zhu. A peer committee will select other trainee talks from submitted abstracts.

May 27th features an invited keynote presentation and faculty talks. Our faculty speakers are:

  • Aereas Aung, assistant professor of biomedical Engineering, Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering and cross-appointed across immunology, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, U of T 
  • Greg German, medical microbiologist and clinician investigator at Unity Health Toronto, and associate professor of laboratory medicine & pathobiology, Temerty Medicine, U of T 
  • Michelle Science, infectious diseases physician at the Division of Infectious Diseases, The Hospital for Sick Children, and assistant professor of paediatrics, Temerty Medicine, U of T 
  • Sharon Sukhdeo,  associate medical director, infection prevention and control, Sinai Health, University Health Network, and assistant professor of medicine, Temerty Medicine, U of T,
  • Tin Vo, assistant professor, Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work, U of T 

We wrap up the event with a poster and networking session!

We are looking for senior trainees (third year PhD students or higher, postdoctoral fellows and research associates) to review submitted abstracts and select abstracts for oral presentations on May 26. We expect the abstract selection process to happen at the end of April. If you are interested in helping select abstracts for the 2025 MID Research Days, please fill out this form.
