Platelets’ role during COVID-19: More to it than blood clots?

Calling all trainees, staff and faculty interested in infectious disease research! The Emerging & Pandemic Infections Consortium with The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) is proud to host a special seminar on the evolving role of platelets in infectious diseases. The seminar is hosted by EPIC faculty member, Julien Muffat, and features a talk by Louis Flamand at Université Laval.

Flamand’s short bio:

Louis Flamand is a professor and vice chair of microbiology, infectious diseases and immunology at Université Laval and a senior researcher in the division of infectious and immune diseases at the CHU de Quebec-Université Laval. He is the Pillar 3 (Virology) lead for Coronavirus Variants Rapid Response Network and the interim chair for the Canadian Consortium for Academic Biosafety Level 3 Laboratories. Part of his research focuses on pre-clinical drug development and since 2008, he has been the president of the biohazards risk committee at Université Laval. Dr Flamand is the author of more than 80 peer-reviewed publications and is the lead editor of the book “Human Herpesviruses HHV-6A, HHV-6B & HHV-7: Diagnosis and Clinical Management” 3rd edition.
